President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief

The US Presidents’ Emergency Plan for AIDS relief (PEPFAR) continues to provide global support to end the HIV epidemic in Malawi. Although PEPFAR experienced temporary operational freezes and grant reviews in 2025, partial waivers and program restarts were later implemented with a renewed added focus towards long-acting prevention methods, such as bi-annual injections, and continues working to meet UNAIDS. PIH has been awarded PEPFAR HIV and TB grants to support Malawi Ministry of Health, since 2009. In June 2021, PIH was awarded HIV and TB grants that will run till September 2026. Through the current grants, PIH is supporting 9 mainland districts and covering 123 health facilities.
