From its establishment in 2004, Partners in Hope (PIH) has
contributed tremendously towards the delivery of quality health services in
Malawi. The Public Health Programs include Integrated HIV and TB Prevention,
Care and Treatment. In line with Malawi’s National HIV and TB program approach,
HIV and TB services, within the medical center at Partners in Hope, are open to
the general public as a free service through the Moyo Center of Excellence
(CoE).Since 2009, United States Government (USG) through President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) under the Department of State, has been awarding Cooperative Agreements to PIH to support Malawi’s HIV and TB response. The Awards enable PIH to support Malawi’s health system through direct service delivery, model interventions, Rapid Assessments and Capacity Building in 123 Ministry of Health, Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) and private health facilities in nine districts across Malawi.
PIH has managed a total of six long-term Awards (five for HIV and one for TB). In 2021, PIH was awarded two grants, a reputable Client Oriented Response for HIV Epidemic Control (CORE 1) and TB Local Organization Network (TB LON 1) as a continuation in the support towards Malawi’s HIV and TB response in its supported districts. The PIH medical center also has a molecular laboratory that currently supports processing of 13% of Malawi’s HIV Viral Load (VL) and Early Infant diagnosis (EID) samples.
PIH employs and places diverse cadres of staff in the 123 health facilities in the nine supported districts to support direct HIV and TB service delivery. Provision of HIV and TB services is in collaboration with Ministry of Health (MoH) health care workers (HCW) and other implementers in the response, in line with Malawi’s HIV Policy guidance and available Clinical management guidelines.
