Partners in Hope (PIH) was founded in 2004 as an outgrowth of an HIV project initiated by Dr. Perry Jansen and a group of individuals committed to providing excellent and compassionate care to the many people infected and effected by HIV in Malawi. 

Beginning with Home Based Care  and HIV prevention in schools, PIH began offering the lifesaving antiretroviral medications (ARVs) in 2002.  The change was remarkable.  Patients who would not have been expected to survive were literally getting out of their deathbeds, going back to work, raising their children...living normal lives.  They needed to do more.

In 2005 PIH moved its work to the newly remodeled facility now known as Partners in Hope Medical Center.  The center has grown to care for over 6,000 HIV patients, seeing over 250 patients every day.  The center now has:
  • Over 6,000 HIV patients in care
  • A 15-bed inpatient facility for the sickest of the sick patients
  • A state of the art laboratory with instruments for a full spectrum of HIV and Tb diagnosis
  • X-ray and ultrasound diagnosis
  • General out-patient services (Dalitso Clinic)
  • Nutrition and home agriculture training programs
